Washington Cover Bands Curse Inaugural Peformers

Night Off For The Wedding Singer

No Inaugural: wedding bands in the Washington, DC area had the night off.

Inaugural Balls usually mean big nights for D.C. area cover bands but not this year. All the big national acts came into town to perform during Obama’s historic night, which meant all the usual cover bands got squeezed out of some pretty high-profile gigs.

So what kind of music could you have seen at an Inaugural ball? Obama’s first stop was the “Neighborhood Ball“ which featured Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey, Faith Hill, JAY-Z, Alicia Keys, Shakira and Stevie Wonder.

The MTV “Youth Inagural Ball” featured Kid Rock, Fall Out Boy, Kanye West, amoung others. The Swagger Sticks did not perform; they were passed over in favor of The Jonas Brothers.

With such a star-studded lineup, I guess attendees didn’t have to suffer through a bad wedding band’s rendition of “Celebration” because Kool and The Gang was probably there to perform it themselves for once!
