Is that a trumpet in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?
I was back at Moonlight Studios on 2/23/09 mixing “Worldwide Pop Star” with The Swagger Sticks, after our drum session the previous Wednesday, when I got the crazy idea of adding horns to my power pop/punk song “Worldwide Pop Star.”
I don’t know where the idea for horns came from but once I got it my head it’s all I could hear when I listened to the song! Producer/horn player Jeff Lewis seemed a little skeptical at first but then quickly warmed to the idea. He recorded two trumpet tracks and four trombone tracks. The result was really cool - power pop/punk meets big band.
It was great having Jeff play horns on the track since he’s played with the likes of The Jackson 5, Doobie Brothers, Lenny Williams (and more). Check out Jeff’s website to see him pictured with Michael Jackson.
He currently plays trumpet Tierra. You won’t want to miss their show The Greek Theater in May when they open for War.
So what are you waiting for? Check out The Swagger Sticks MySpace Music page for the ”horny” version ”Worldwide Pop Star!”
Cheers,
~AFG Must Rock!
