Here Comes Your Man (Finally!)
I just got a pair of tickets to The Pixies 20th anniversary tour celebrating the release of the album Doolittle. I’m seeing them on the first leg of the show here in Los Angeles at The Palladium on Friday, 11/6/2009. Tickets were $50.50 with a $12.95 “ticket fee.”
Opening that night is Rain Machine, the side project from one of the guys from TV On The Radio (“Wolf Like Me” is such an awesome song). I’ve never heard of Rain Machine but I’ll be doing a quick write up on them soon enough. Jay Reatard is opening some of the shows but, to be frank, I’m glad they won’t be opening up the LA shows.
I remember seeing The Pixies after this record came out in Chicago back in the day. Kim Deal was wearing an “I Love NY” t-shirt, which I thought was kind of obnoxious because the show was in Chicago, and they refused, yes, absolutely refused to play “Here Comes Your Man,” which was a minor college radio hit at the time.
According to the CMJ website, All of the shows on this tour will feature a performance of Doolittle in its entirety as well as the album’s related B-sides, which include “Bailey’s Walk,” “Dancing The Manta Ray” and “Weird At My School.”
Opening bands include Bad Lieutenant (featuring New Order’s Bernard Sumner), L.A. art-punks No Age, Brooklyn’s Black Gold, garage-rocker Jay Reatard, Kyp Malone’s solo project Rain Machine and Danish trio Mew.
